My husband and I left Philadelphia in 1972 when he was offered a job that would send us to Germany. We stayed there 7 years. When it was time to get a job, he accepted one in NE Maryland and we're still here. He retired last year, and we're planning on moving back to the Philadelphia area. We would love to be in the city, but just can't afford what we want. At our age we're not willing to compromise that much. However, we WILL get as close as we can afford. We've lived here since 1979, and I've never felt at home here. When I go to Philadelphia, I'm home. Philadelphia is VASTLY underrated. When I talk to people who go there for the first time they are amazed at how nice the city really is. It's too bad that so many writers are obsessed by Philadelphia's sports fans. They are only a small part of what the city is really about. I like going into shops where people greet you warmly, rather than acting as if they are doing you a favor for having a business. There are some great small businesses in our area, but it's mostly been taken over by chains. Also I'm tired of living with an overload of right wing Republicans. But that's really totally personal!

I've always thought Philly is a great city, but I have friends who do cool things there like play live music, go to photography exhibits, throw fun parties, etc.

So many people think Philly is a dingy city. Well, most cities are, in places, but Philly is also beautiful in parts, just like NYC and Boston.

Now, Baltimore, that's another story...
