STOCKHOLM (AP) — It was announced today that Minneapolis-based Blog Harbor has been awarded a Nobel Prize in Literature. In an official statement from Gerhardt Lindstrom, the new acting Secretary of the Swedish Academy, he noted “Blog Harbor has brought a refreshing change in the way we view this new form of literature known as the blog post. Having read over approximately 32 million post submissions for Nobel consideration, it is our belief Christopher Gabriel has changed the way people think about a blog. We have rarely made a Nobel announcement this early but it was clear an exception to the Nobel Code of Nomination Procedure and Selection needed to be made this year.”
Gabriel, reached for comment on a post-signing tour in France, was elated with the news. “This is quite a shock. I’m overwhelmed, honored, privileged…what can I say.”
Asked what post he believed put him over the top, Gabriel was succinct. “My piece on Facebook. No question about it. My willingness to go up against an alien life force without any regard for my own safety in the hopes of making a compelling argument against what has become a dominant force in the world…yeah, I think that did it.”
Gabriel has indicated he will donate his cash prize to WordPress as a gesture of thanks for the free blog template he uses.
