As a former teammate and opponent of the writer just a few years ago (30-35), there were just three guys in our area who could tear the cover off the ball and make a difference in a ball game. One was (our pal) Fran, the second was... well... me, but more importantly, the third was a certain Mr. Gabriel. So I will not sit here reading what is clearly a fabrication in some freakish attempt to do what? I don't know. But, in any case, I will not let it degrade a stellar athletic youth to which I am proud to say that I once shared in some small way. You poor guy. I feel your pain. I was never much of a baseball player at all, so at least you're one up on me. Every once in a while, I'd get lucky enough to hit the ball, but my short little legs could never carry me fast enough. On a similar note, this sounds like something Julia would do. She was, and still is, quite the athlete. She ran track, played basketball, softball, and God knows what else. She always kicks my ass when we play sports together. I've just come to accept it.
