The 1949 WDAY Northwest Holiday Hour

On Christmas Eve, myself and WDAY Radio Production Director Steve Tschida did the 10:00 hour of my radio program as if it was 1949. We didn’t try to sound like 60 years ago as much as we structured the hour in a manner that gave you a sense of what an hour of radio on WDAY was like.
The music of the era, a listener quiz, a local resident giving his viewpoint on a major topic, a “dramatic” reading of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas… the news from “the largest radio newsroom in the Northwest” to the weather report at “the U.S. meteorological station at Hector Airfield,” we tried to cover all the bases.
I’ve received numerous emails from listeners saying how much they enjoyed it but didn’t get to hear the entire hour because of work, preparing for Christmas, etc. Because of that, I’m going to put the entire hour on here sometime Monday night. It’ll be broken up into five segments and found under Radio Archives.
Steve and I thought it came off pretty well. And suffice it to say, we’ve already got ideas on how to make next year’s even better.
Also my rendition of Tom Hegg’s masterful A Cup of Christmas Tea, read as a tribute to the late North Dakota broadcasting legend Boyd Christenson, also may be found in the Radio Archives.
