As part of our Listener Correspondent program, where we have listeners file on-air reports for us from sporting/music events, film openings, a new roller coaster at an amusement park, and so on, August wouldn’t be complete without a report from Vikings Training Camp Guy, Lance McDaniel.
Lance is a diehard Vikings fan and my best estimation has Fargo, North Dakota as 97% Minnesota Vikings fans, 2% Green Bay Packers fans, and 1% made up of fans from an assortment of teams including, but not limited to, the Chicago Bears, San Francisco 49ers, Denver Broncos, and Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
I’ve not been able to confirm it, but sources tell me there are also three people who follow a club team in Minsk.
Several years ago, Lance became Not Vikings Training Camp Guy due to the sudden cancellation of his trip. His people insisted it was “just one of those things” but staff members of The Christopher Gabriel Program maintain it was a strategic move to garner him more airtime in future seasons. Negotiations are ongoing for future seasons with Lance… and others.
Vikings training camp is in Mankato, Minnesota. Like most NFL teams when they arrive in camp, fans flock there to see their heroes, or hoped-for future stars, in a more relaxed environment that affords great photo opportunities while remaining considerably more affordable than the cost of an actual game ticket. The average NFL game ticket is now just slightly lower than round-trip airfare from New York City to London.
