The Best Sideline Report Ever (video)
This sideline reporter for Fox Sports is the all-time leader in the clubhouse for honesty and making the best of what could have been an embarrassing, job-ending moment. Instead, you can’t help but love this guy. photo credit for stadium on home page featured post: rc!
A Look Back: The Lane Kiffin to USC Pre-Press Conference Fiasco (video)
As college football approaches, let’s take one more look at the pre-press conference where Lane Kiffin announces he’s leaving the University of Tennessee for USC. Quite honestly this little fiasco, moderated by UT Sports Information Director Bud Ford and orchestrated by Kiffin, remains a study in what often happens behind the scenes before the actual news conference rolls for [...]
Suzette: Killer Beta Fish (video)
Suzette has garnered quite a bit of attention since she arrived at the Gabriel household. Las Vegas has the over / under on her at 17 days. As of today, it’s Day 12. I’m starting to think she’ll make the over, but her continued fascination with her filter may change the course of her young [...]
Eye on Monday: The Carousel
Last week I had the opportunity to go down to Wahpeton, North Dakota and visit the Chahinkapa Zoo. Directly across from the zoo sits the Prairie Rose Carousel. Built in 1926, it is one of the original 150 wooden horse carousels that still operate throughout the United States. One ride on it, with my younger [...]
Soccer Deserves Attention from Americans
We are a funny country when it comes to sports. We love our baseball and football, enjoy basketball and certainly the cities that have NHL franchises follow hockey with a passion. We’ll watch tennis, golf and turn out in huge numbers to watch NASCAR. And then there’s soccer. We don’t love soccer. We don’t even seem [...]
A Sign for the Times We Live In
A topic on my program today dealt with the city of Grand Forks, North Dakota and their desire to have $30 fines for anyone caught texting while driving. Were it up to me, the fine would be no less than $500. It’s time to stop treating this with kid gloves. A new law and fine [...]
The Cup Returns to Chicago… Finally
One by one they fell. The Predators, the Canucks, the Sharks. For Chicago Blackhawks fans, it began to feel like destiny. Finally, after 49 years, this would be The Year to solidify the rebirth of hockey in Chicago. This was about to be Chicago’s Moment. Standing in their way: The Philadelphia Flyers. In a most improbable playoff [...]
Disallowed USA Goal in World Cup (video)
Although this doesn’t quite rank with the 1972 Olympic gold medal basketball final between the Soviet Union and the United States – one of the most pathetic injustices in the history of sports where the referees gave the Soviets three tries to beat the U.S…. and on the third try, they finally did it – [...]
Backup Dancers or Low Impact Aerobics? (video)
The Ronettes are one of my all-time favorite groups. Their hit, Be My Baby, is a classic. But this video of the song - check out the backup “dancers” up on the risers. It looks like they’re doing old Up with People choreography. photo credit for Ronettes on home page featured post: The Best of the [...]
Can an Ad for Diapers Be Offensive? (video)
Is the controversy with this ad, highlighted by both the New York Times and Newsweek, much ado about nothing? You make the call:
Can the Blackhawks Finally Reach the Summit?
Your NHL Frozen Four, also known as the final four teams standing in the 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs, will be the Montreal Canadiens, Philadelphia Flyers, San Jose Sharks and Chicago Blackhawks. How Montreal and Philadelphia arrived in the Eastern Conference Finals is nothing short of remarkable. Montreal has been a great story during the playoffs, [...]

The Coop at The CG Program Wisconsin Offices (video)
You never really know what’s going to happen – or what you’ll see – at the Wisconsin officies of The CG Program.
Why Even Wear Shorts
I took my six-year-old daughter to the mall for ice cream on Saturday after a grueling couple of hours roller skating at a kindergarten birthday party. Nothing better than a cool cone to cool down. While at the mall, I was reminded how many young girls (thinking teens… even pre-teens) are in need of fashion [...]
When Did Kids Become Luggage Dealers?
Because of the hours I keep at WDAY, my program being 9 am to noon, I’m not able to drive my daughter to or from kindergarten. This job falls to my wife. But the other day, with the school year nearly over, finally it worked out for me to pick her up after school. I viewed [...]
Basketball Experts Forever Play it Safe
Dick Vitale, Digger Phelps, Pat Forde, Seth Davis, Andy Katz… these gentlemen, and many more, are your annual NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament Guides. They spend each winter in your living rooms and on your computer screens breaking down the strengths, weaknesses and intangibles of Division 1 college basketball teams from the ACC to the Pac-10. What we [...]
Store Check-Out Requires Discipline
I’m probably the exception to the supposed “rule” that emphatically states men don’t like shopping. When it comes to clothes, groceries, items for the home – you name it – I prefer being an active participant. In particular, I’ve always viewed late-night grocery shopping as therapeutic: A simple, relaxing way to end the day. Some might even [...]
Could You Make This Shot? (video)
At the recent Idaho – Utah State basketball game in Logan (Utah), Idaho center Marvin Jefferson stepped to the free throw line for two shots. As is the case in college basketball, the crowd behind the basket – in this case, part of the Utah State student section – was doing everything they could to distract [...]
This Week’s Column in The Forum of Fargo-Moorhead
It’s week two of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics. So… how’s Canada doing? Has the show they’ve put on made the world like them – dare I say, love them – the way many like / love the United States? Canada is a wonderful country, but let’s face it – our friends to the north have [...]
Where Do Lost Balloons Go? (video)
Have you ever wondered where lost balloons go? They float up, up and away from us… we watch them as long as we can and then… where? Where do they end up? Now we know.
This Week’s Column in The Forum of Fargo-Moorhead
Valentine’s Day is over. This means men everywhere once again can let out an enormous sigh as they prepare for next year’s Main Event on the Giving Calendar. Is there a “holiday” loaded with more pressure than Valentine’s Day? It says here the answer is no. No, no… a thousand times… NO! Sorting Through the [...]
CareerBuilder.com Casual Friday and My Pal (commercial)
This was one of my favorite commercials during the Super Bowl for two reasons. First, the mere thought of this happening in an office makes the mind race… or crash. And second, the principal actor in the ad (“Terry”) is a really talented guy and good friend, Steve Lewis. It says here it’s only a matter [...]
This Week’s Column in The Forum of Fargo-Moorhead
Everyone in meteorology likes to talk about Weather Events. And if it’s not a Weather Event, it’s a Snow Event. So if they can talk about Weather and Snow Events, it only seems appropriate for me to talk about them as well. And, perhaps, define the difference between Weather Events in, say, Minneapolis and Fargo-Moorhead. [...]
