LISTEN: Going Coast to Coast with the Talented and Versatile Bob Costas

One of my favorite broadcasters, sports or otherwise, is Bob Costas. Few people are as skilled and versatile as Costas. Either as a play-by-play announcer or studio host he’s covered football, baseball, basketball, hockey, golf, boxing, thoroughbred racing and, of course, his remarkable work through the years as NBC’s primetime host for Summer and Winter Olympic Games broadcasts.

There’s also been a handful of talk programs Costas has hosted both on radio and television. For my tastes his best work was hosting Later with Bob Costas on NBC. He and a single guest went one-on-one for an entire half hour, occasionally holding a guest over for multiple nights. The show was every bit as good as today’s gold standard, Charlie Rose.

Some years back I had the opportunity to sit down for a chat with Bob. We covered a good deal of his remarkable career, from baseball to the Olympics and even Bob Cutlass.

At a time so much bombast and anger exists in radio and television broadcasting, Bob Costas is a reminder you can rise to the top without a shred of shock.

Typical of the quality interview CG is able to get with nationally known figures and the thought provoking questions he always comes up with.
